The payload rating for the 2003 Toyota Prius V is 1047 lbs, so in theory 1000 lbs of extra weight is within tolerance of this vehicles payload. On the other hand, Toyota recommends that you do not tow anything with this vehicle, as it is not designed to do so.

Then if you are the only item in the car you can just tow that weight (depending on trailer weight). If a prius can take 5 average sized adults and some luggage/cargo, then it can definitely tow that same weight on a trailer. that way you are technically staying in the prius weight carry specifications. The 2010 prius has 2 more horsepower than corolla and corolla is rated at towing 1500lbs. The new prius in power mode should definitely not have any problems of course with no backseat passengers towing 1000-1500lbs. And, yes i know the cvt may not be able to handle it but i find that doubtful as other cvt's out there are able to tow. The forums say a 2016 Prius can tow, but the user manuals say they cannot.
