How To Remove Fuel Injectors
Disconnect the wiring to the injectors. You will need to remove the fuel feed line that's attached to the common rail (fuel rail) and the fuel return line attached to the PCV, (vacuum line too), then the rail itself from the top of the injectors. Pull the injectors straight up and out of the manifold.
How to remove fuel injectors. 6. Remove the fuel injector(s) and place it in the box that contained the new injector(s) or wrap it to protect it during return shipping and handling. Any injectors received “damaged” will not be accepted. Fuel Injector Installation: 1. Coat the fuel injector “O” ring(s) of the new injector(s) and the mating area of the fuel rail with The metal rod over the fuel injectors is the fuel rail. Use the socket and ratchet to remove the bolts and brackets holding the fuel rail in place. Depending on the model, some engines will need the fuel line disconnected from the fuel rail in order to move the rail. Step 4 - Detach All Fuel Lines. If your engine has a fuel rail, then proceed on to the next step. If, however, your engine has fuel lines instead of a fuel rail, then remove both the fuel supply and the return lines from the injectors. This ensures disconnection of any fuel supply to the injector. Otherwise, you risk getting fuel sprayed all. Remove the board under the carpet, if you have it. Remove the spare tire. Remove the nine (9) screws holding the fuel pump access panel down. A power screwdriver is very helpful here. A number of the screws in mine were stripped. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector. Remove the clamp holding the fuel pump boot in place with a 6mm socket.
The fuel injectors are held into the fuel rail by retaining clips near the top of the injector body. Note how the clips are installed prior to removing the clips for injector removal. Check the condition of the injector o-ring seals and injector caps (hats) prior to installing the injectors. The fuel injectors are now placed in an ultrasonic cleaning bath where they are pulsed open and closed for 30 - 40 minutes. 7. The injectors are removed from the ultrasonic cleaning bath and then back flushed to remove any additional grime or dirt. Remove 4 bolts holding fuel rail in. Use strip of coke bottle to undo fuel line clip from rail. Catch fuel. Remove injectors + o-rings. From there, i'm not sure - i don't know exactly how the injectors plug into the rail and engine, and where/how the o-rings and filters go in. The injectors are plugged into the fuel rail and may come out with the rail. If they do not, carefully work any remaining injectors free with your fingers from the lower intake manifold or the rail. Be sure to check for any "O" rings left behind and remove them.
Fuel injectors need to be cleaned on a regular basis if your engine has to run smoothly.. When the cleaner produces a burst of pressure for injecting cleaning solvent into the injectors, it will remove debris and grime as well. If you remove the cap from the fuel tank, it will prevent building excessive pressure, which can cause combustion.. Step 9: Pull up on the fuel rail Remove the rail off the injectors. Step 10: Pry up on the injectors. Using a small pry bar, lightly pry up on the injectors and pop them out of the intake ports. Clean the ports with non-abrasive cleaner and wipe them out with a lint free cloth. Replacing a fuel injector may sound like a complicated and involved task. However, with a bit of pre-planning and a few specialist tools, it’s very much a DIY job. Garages can charge hundreds of dollars to remove and inspect injectors, doing it yourself can save you serious money! When putting the injectors back in, use a new length of 5/16" Fuel Injector (important) hose, and the proper, solid-surface clamps (I use oil/grease on the nipples and clamps to make things go together nicely). Old hoses can be cut off the injectors with a razor blade. Clean the injectors' electrical contacts with acetone on a Q-tip.
The injectors on the multiport fuel injection system of your vehicle feed the intake valves during engine operation. They accomplish this using several internal components like coils, springs, armatures, nozzles and other components. Any of these components inside the injector may eventually brake or fail to perform. The cleaner will remove debris and grime by using a burst of pressure to inject a cleaning solvent into the fuel injectors. Be sure to remove the fuel tank cap before starting the cleaning. This will keep excessive pressure from building up, which could cause combustion. Remove the fuel injectors from the engine. Remove the o-ring from the in-flow (fuel rail) side of the injector. Connect the tubing to the in-flow side of the fuel injector. Tighten a hose clamp so it doesn't leak. Connect the electrical leads to the fuel injector. Comments: I was able to remove the fuel injectors of my '87 325 2.7L without too much issue. After bleeding fuel pressure, I disconnected the 6 injector electrical connectors by pushing the connector clips toward the connector body then pulled the connectors apart from the fuel injector.
Tools to remove the fuel injectors. Fuel injector cleaning fluid. Make sure it contains polyether amine (PEA) which is very effective at dissolving thick carbon deposits. New fuel injector O-Rings. Rubber hose and hose clamps. Electrical leads with alligator clips. Drip pan to collect spilled fuel. Step By Step Guide on How to Clean Your Fuel. Just a note: make sure that there is no trace of fuel in the injectors, as the cleaning fluid may be flammable. Also, make sure to remove the cap of the fuel tank to prevent excessive pressure from building up inside the tank. The cleaning kit works by injecting cleaning fluid under pressure to remove grime and debris built up in your pump. In this case the fuel injector will be removed with the rail. Using a small standard screwdriver or pick remove the retainer clip from the fuel injector and work the injector from the rail. Keep a shop towel handy to catch excess fuel while removing the injector. Inspect the old fuel injector making sure the sealing O rings are accounted for. Step 2 - Unplugging the Injectors. Each of the injector from the fuel rail could be unplugged manually. Use your hands in releasing the clips that secure the injectors but before doing it, you have to unlock the fuel rail from the fuel line with the use of the 3/8 socket and wrench. Step 3 - Removing the Fuel Rail
Steps to check the injector coil. Turn off the vehicle, remove the electrical connector of the injector you want to check; Put the digital multimeter to a right value on the Ohms scale according to the resistance specs for your fuel injector (usually, you need to set the multimeter to read at least up to 30 Ohms).
